To open the festival, philosopher Eva von Redecker explores the possibility of a radical reorientation of human action in a keynote speech on I WANT TO BELIEVE. Not utopian, but rather groundbreaking for a changed practice that points to ecological, social, and solidarity-based freedom.

With clear analysis, her writings and theories reveal how the capitalist economy and increasingly diffuse authoritarian tendencies worldwide are destroying the foundations of all life. As we approach a spectacular collapse due to the resurgence of fascist thinking, the environmental catastrophes surrounding us, and an increasingly divided society, she seeks to open up prospects for emancipation based on her diagnosis of the present.

Against the (neo)liberal logic of competition and the defense of vested interests that permeate our individualistic society, she advocates for a different kind of community that transcends existing property and power relations and chooses life -for human and non-human beings alike.

Von Redecker is considered "one of the most important and imaginative philosophers of the present day" (Tagesspiegel) and "one of the most interesting thinkers of her generation" (Spiegel). She nurtures hope and places her trust in the inescapable responsibility of each individual for the cycles and interplay of life: „We only have this one life on this Earth, that’s what truly matters.“

Eva von Redecker is a philosopher and author. Her latest book, Bleibefreiheit (S.Fischer 2023), addresses the concept of freedom in light of the ecological crisis and proposes that in the future, freedom should be understood more in terms of time rather than space. She writes for Die ZEIT, The Guardian, and Philosophie Magazin, among others, and hosts the discussion series "Maschinenraum der Zukunft" (Engine Room of the Future) at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
